Mediate UK: notable developments

Mediate UK is a family mediation provider operating in England and Wales as a trading name of Family Legal Ltd, the publisher of this wiki. This page is a dated list of developments at Mediate UK from 2011 to 2026 for which a source can be cited. Where the only source is a page published by the company or one of its brands, the entry is labelled a company statement; where an independent record exists, such as Companies House, the Information Commissioner’s Office, the Legal Aid Agency or an awards organiser, it is cited in preference.

The mediation service began in October 2011 under the name Surrey Mediation Service; Family Legal Ltd was incorporated on 6 May 2025 to hold every brand in the group; the London, Bristol and Dorset regional brands and Family Law Service followed between July 2025 and 2026; the company published its first annual outcome dataset, for 2025, in mid-2026; and its Legal Aid Agency family mediation contract went live on 10 August 2026.[1][2][3][4][5] Events for which no source could be found, including the date of the change of name to Mediate UK and the opening dates of individual branches, are noted in the final section rather than given a date.

Overview

The organisation’s public record falls into two periods. From 2011 to early 2025 it operated as a private family mediation service, first in Surrey and then across England, with little independent documentation beyond review platform profiles and two business awards. From May 2025 the incorporation of Family Legal Ltd, registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office, the launch of a group of brands and websites, the publication of outcome data and the award of a Legal Aid Agency contract created a set of independently checkable records.[2][6][4] The timeline below lists both periods; the narrative sections explain the entries whose sourcing needs comment.

Origins and brand names

Family Legal Ltd’s history page states that “Mediate UK and Surrey Mediation Service began providing family mediation in October 2011”, and the Surrey Mediation Service site describes itself as “First established in Surrey in 2011”.[1][7] The mediation service therefore predates the current operating company by more than thirteen years. Mediate UK’s Reviews.co.uk profile is registered under the store name “surrey-mediation-service-ltd”, which indicates that the service originally traded under the Surrey name before adopting Mediate UK for national work.[8] No published source gives the date of that change, and it is entered in the timeline as undated. The founding period is discussed on history.

Corporate structure, 2025

Family Legal Ltd was incorporated on 6 May 2025 with its registered office at Access Business Centre, Willoughby Road, Bracknell, and is recorded by Companies House as active with the standard industrial classification for other legal activities.[2] Family Legal Ltd describes its purpose as “the covering company for every brand in the group”.[1] Its data protection registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office followed on 20 October 2025.[6] The relationship between the operating company, the mediation service and the other brands is set out on Family Legal Ltd.

Expansion, 2025 to 2026

Family Legal Ltd records that London Mediation Service “launched in July 2025 as the dedicated London arm of Mediate UK”, that Family Law Service “launched in November 2025”, and that “Through 2026 Family Legal Ltd launched the specialist and support brands that now make up most of the group”, naming MIAM UK, C100 Form, ConsentOrder.org.uk, childmaintenance.org.uk, Mediation Guide, Kids and Divorce, Maypole, From Dads to Dads, Mediation Dorset and Bristol Mediation Services.[1] The regional brand sites for London, Bristol and Dorset each describe the service as a partner branch of Mediate UK within Family Legal Ltd.[12][14][15] These dates are the company’s own; the brand sites themselves do not carry launch dates. The locations are described on locations and the sites on educational resources.

By 6 September 2026 the company’s branch sitemap listed 31 branch pages, in counties from Berkshire to West Yorkshire.[21][20] Mediate UK does not publish the dates on which individual branches opened, so branch growth cannot be dated beyond the London and 2026 regional launches above.

Publication of outcome data, 2026

In June and July 2026 the company published, for the first time, a set of figures about its own 2025 activity: a methodology page on MIAM UK, last reviewed on 15 June 2026; a statistics page on mediateuk.co.uk published on 17 June 2026; and an outcomes page whose figures the company states were verified in July 2026.[16][17][5] The figures, their collection and their limitations as self-reported provider data are examined on published data.

Mediate UK’s legal aid page states that “Legal aid will be offered by Mediate UK from the 10th August 2026”, and its legal aid guide, updated in July 2026, repeats the date.[3][18] The independent confirmation is the Legal Aid Agency’s directory of family mediation providers, which on 6 September 2026 listed “Family Legal LTD T/A Mediate UK” at the Bracknell address.[4] The contract is the first public funding arrangement in the organisation’s history, and it brings the company within the Agency’s audit regime; see legal aid and accreditation and standards.

Events not included

The following are omitted because no source could be cited on 6 September 2026: the date on which the service adopted the name Mediate UK; the opening dates of individual branches outside London, Bristol and Dorset; the growth of the mediator panel over time; and the launch date of The Divorce Circle, for which the company’s history page and the site itself give different dates. A claimed number of clients served since 2011, which appears on the company’s home page, is a company statement without a published basis and is not entered in the timeline. Awards whose organiser’s site could not be fetched are excluded, as explained on awards and recognition.
